I define “art” as…an idea that is expressed through visual communication and through an interaction that goes beyond the physical to evoke the subconscious.

I want to close the gap between technical proficiency and conceptual expression in order to achieve an emotional exchange between my work and the viewer.

I began making these works as physical metaphors for emotional states, such as anxiety, tension, and loss. I rely on the iconography and the associations inherent in the materials used—glass, stainless steel, fiber, etc.—to evoke and communicate emotional responses or to create a feeling of relation to the work.

My intent is to create an open physical dialogue between the work and the viewer. Above all, my intent is to achieve a palpable sense of empathy and connectivity between the work and the viewer.
